School Nurse Visits

Norwayne is very happy to welcome our new school nurse Mrs. Blanca. She will be with us every Tuesday and has a small "office" over in the Eighth Grade building. Mrs. Blanca did a short hand washing lesson with the kids and really reinforced the merits of being pro-active when trying to keep away from the flu. A special thanks goes to our "germ models" Skylar C. and Jordan B..

In language arts we are working through A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It is a very difficult drama but I believe the kids are enjoying the challenge and will develop a stronger appreciation for the holiday because of it. I am always amazed at how many different "tie ins" they come up with we are discussing ideas and morals. Making that connection is a very important component of not only enjoying material but also mastering it. This play will take the better part of our time between now and our holiday break. The kids will not have as much homework from me but they really should be making sure they reach their AR goals and make up and missing assignments.

I conducted a video lecture with my social studies group these last two days. They got to experience The Lost City of Petra. An amazing place located in the Middle East that often gets overlooked with all of the other issues that are so dominating in that region. As an educator I have to make sure that the students are exposed to all of the great accomplishments of our areas to avoid just the "problems". This fabulous city was literally carved from solid rock and flourished in the middle of the desert. Parents from my homeroom please ask the kids what they thought about this lesson.

This story is a very long but very good one. I am enjoying it very much.

The Play that we are reading now is very cool.It is called Ebenezer Scrooge and it is about a man who has to change his life if he wants to save himself and his dear friend Jacob Marley from having to be in chains for eternity when Scrooge dies.I like being Scrooge,it is really fun to me.It is very fun doing this play Mr. Person. I hope that we read another one soon.

The Lost City of Petra is enthralling I never thought it would be so vast and grand. The buildings are carved in solid rock.

I think The Lost City Of Petra was very educational. It is very interesting how they carved the bulidings, and rode on donkeys!!!

Think that the school nurse sould be here more than just Tuesday. Like three to four days at the least. That hand washing stuff was nasty because it was every where. The hand stuff did better than soap and water.

Posted by: Lance Sasser at December 8, 2004 11:34 AM

The school nurse visit was fun because we got to see what you hand looked like with a black light to see how good you wash you hands.

Posted by: Kyle Powell at December 8, 2004 11:38 AM

I think that everything that we have done in social studies is really good to learn about, because I wasn't learning about it at my old school.

Mr Person,

I think you are the most "with it" teacher at Norwayne. Can I be in your class?

Posted by: Michelle Darden at December 8, 2004 02:25 PM

Hey Mr. Person I like the way that you teach this class because you have made it funner than any other teacher I had.Thankyou for being a great teacher to me so far.I bet the next students that you have next will like you just the same

Posted by: Jeff Carmel at December 9, 2004 11:56 AM

Hey Mr. Person I like the play were reading in Literature even though I don't have a part. I still like to listen to the class read it because Ican understand it better when the classmates have parts.

Posted by: Daniel Rose at December 9, 2004 04:24 PM

Hey Mr.Person. I am having fun reading A Christmas Carol. It is a really cool story. I can't wait until we watch the movie. I bet it will be even more fun than reading the story. Hope that you have a really good time over Christmas break.

Posted by: Aaron Evererett at December 10, 2004 09:53 AM

Hey Mr. Person I can't wait when Christmas break starts! The Christmas Carol got me in the mood for Christmas. My part as Bob Craitchet was fun. I had a big part in it too. I learned that there is a lot of different kind of Christmas Carols, but we read the original one!

Posted by: Addison Westbrook at December 10, 2004 09:56 AM

The Christmas story is one of my favorite Christmas stories to read out of all the many that their is.

Posted by: Shawn Hales at December 10, 2004 10:04 AM

I think people should'nt have to dress out if they want to they can. It's there oponion if they think it helps them or not

Posted by: Addison Westbrook at December 10, 2004 10:05 AM

The story we were reading in literature is a cool play I like how at first Mr.Scrooge was mean and hateful than he turn nice.

Posted by: Brittany Hicks at December 10, 2004 10:06 AM

The Christmas Carol was a great story. I enjoyed it very much! Thanks for taking the time to read it with us!

Posted by: Skylar Crawford at December 13, 2004 09:46 AM

Mr. Person today we did the 9 weeks assessment test and I think I did well! It was shorter than I thought it was and that’s a good thing.

Posted by: Addison Westbrook at December 13, 2004 09:54 AM

Hey Mr. Person,
I like the way we are learning about Petra. I think that it’s cool how they built a big building by stating out with solid rock.

Posted by: Brittany Hicks at December 13, 2004 09:58 AM

Mr. Person I can’t wait to see the Christmas Carol “the movie.” Since we already read the play it will be better to actually see what’s happening! The unfortunate thing is it might have a little bit of a different version in it.

Posted by: Addison Westbrook at December 13, 2004 10:01 AM

Mr. Person,
I think that it’s cool how every time we read a book or a play we get to see it in a movie. I think that that’s cool

Posted by: Brittany Hicks at December 13, 2004 10:01 AM

I just watched the "A Christmas Carol" movie on TV as soon as we finished reading it to better understand the settings and to put clearer pictures in my head.

Posted by: Brittney Barfield at December 13, 2004 11:38 AM

I think that the nurse coming is really good because she shows us how important it is to clean up!

Posted by: Brittney Barfield at December 13, 2004 11:43 AM

I think that germs are very nasty and can make some people very sick and they can sometimes do very bad things to you!

Posted by: Patrick Langley at December 13, 2004 11:45 AM

Mr. Person I am not in social studies but this story sounds really cool I think it is fun to learn about other countries!

Posted by: Brittney Barfield at December 13, 2004 11:46 AM

I think the story that we are reading is very difficult but is also very interesting to me because I enjoy when we do things like that at school and would like to do it again sometimes!

Posted by: Patrick Langley at December 13, 2004 11:49 AM

A Christmas Carol seems to be a really great story. I am very sad that I missed it. I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
